Those who have been following this blog page for a while probably know that the short stories told by me, are written and published as a first draft. The story "Can You See Me?" just decided to take on a life of it's own. I want to conclude it at chapter eleven, so I've decided to leave a lot out and conclude it for now. Maybe one day, I will have the time and inclination to publish it as a commercial project. Or, a book publisher will commission me to write it properly. Destiny will decide what happens.  The next chapter will not really be the end of the story, just the start.  As you write off the cuff, it's easy to go off track (if you're no...

Passion and frenzy takes us to the last eight: I have refrained from commenting on the World Cup because the media is awash with everything anyone could ever want to know about the tournament. Now, we've reached the last eight teams, the quarter finalists. It's time for me to make my own comments and observations. Despite the protests and objections from many Brazilians, the competition has been electric to watch. Great skill, passion, nationalistic fervour, super saves from some goalkeepers, fantastic goals from strikers, everything a soccer fan could ever wish for, has been happening in Brazil. There has been more positives than negatives. The level of sportsmanship has been high. If we discount the Suar...

Him and the grand piano plus voice, kind of put Juwon Ogungbe in a class of his own. "Calling out,"  the opening song, created the mood and set the tone for the rest of the night. Juwon has his own sound. It's unique and it fits his rich voice perfectly. Described as an effortless mix of African grooves, soul stirring songs and funky licks. I think it is more than that. The African tunes are deep with meaning and reflective of the culture whence they came.  Classically trained, he is not new to performance. It kind of shows in his quiet confidence and skill. Showcasing the work from his current CD, "Life Force Music...

The drummer and a leading member of the band,  Rough Science  as we discussed their gig in Camden the week before. The gig at the  Record Club  in Camden Town ,  was to mark the official launch of Rough Science's double EP on that Saturday 29th March and the venue was filled with fans, family, friends and well wishers. The band put on a good show with thrilling songs like "Turning Me On", "Battered and Bruised", "Rebel" and the kick ass song "Our Way" as well as the other tracks from the new album now on sale on iTunes. In my opinion, this band with their own unique and original repertoire of contem...

In the last cell at the bottom of the narrow corridor, three men sat huddled in whispered conversation. Glynn Taft, in for murdering his stepfather, had been in prison for nineteen years. Prison legend has it, he killed the man savagely, tearing out the victim's throat with his teeth. Inmates called him, "Animal." His two friends were exact opposites of each other. One, tall and skinny while the other was short and swarthy. Both had chequered prison careers, more than half  of their adult life gone. Spent serving sentences in various prisons for violent offences and armed robberies. All three, possessed cunning, guile and manipulative behaviour. Probably honed by their years in institutions...

Names, characters, place and events are the product of the author's imagination. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, events and places is totally coincidental It took Fafo three weeks to completely trust the old boy. His name was Sammy Calvert and he had been incarcerated in various prisons for eight years. Although the authorities advice inmates not to disclose the nature of their offence, inmates view those who are reluctant to talk about their cases with a high level of suspicion. No prisoner wants to associate with a rapist or a child molester. They are considered the lowest of the low in prisons and are routinely subjected to mistreatment, harassment and savage beatings fr...
